Meet Miss. Ashworth

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to your child's first full year at Reremoana School. My name is Kaylie Ashworth and the children know me as Miss. Ashworth. I am looking forward to getting to know your child well, so that I can help them to have a successful first year at school.

This is my second year teaching Year 0/1 children and I am really enjoying it. Prior to teaching at Reremoana School, I taught in a school in Pukekohe teaching children with high behavioural and learning needs. I am originally from 'shaky' Christchurch where I studied a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Primary), and then I went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Inclusive and Special Education. I am currently studying at nighttime a Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Mathematics Teaching (study is a big passion of mine!!)
I come from a large family – one of 8 children! I am the second eldest and the only girl and I wouldn’t have it any other way. We are all very close which makes me very happy. My whole family live in Christchurch, so I try to get down there for a few days most holidays. Although Christchurch will always be my home, Auckland is growing on me a lot. There is so much to do and explore! I’m not sure if this humidity will ever grow on me though!
When I am not working or studying, I like to go for drives to new places, swim at the beach, walks, cooking, baking, catching up with friends and of course Skyping my family and friends back at home. I also have a cat named Monkey who I flew up here on the plane. She is a handful and keeps me busy.

Two things I am especially passionate about are Literacy and Art. I love teaching 5 year olds how to recognise the letters and sounds of the alphabet, new words, and how to read books. Art has always been a hobby of mine and I can’t wait to start creating some masterpieces with your children!

Before and after school I have an open door policy. If at any time you would like to discuss your child's learning with me, or you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to pop in and have a chat. Alternatively, you can e-mail me at kayliea@reremoana.school.nz

Thanks,

Kaylie Ashworth
