House Spirit Day

Kia ora Parents and Caregivers!

On Friday, we had our house spirit day at school. We all came dressed in our house colours and then had a picnic at lunchtime sitting in our house groups. Afterwards, we played a game with our team and then had a parade on the field! We had so much fun and it was nice to see everyone so excited for their team!

Each week, we have a different PB4L school wide focus. This week we are learning to 'Use kind words and good manners'. If Miss. Ashworth consistently sees a child trying their best to achieve the focus of the week, she gives them a special gold token to put into their house token box. At the end of the week, the older students come around and check whose house had the most gold tokens.

Here are some photos from our House Spirit day! Isn't Ms Fothergill an amazing photographer!!!

Our Room 16 Buddies

Every Friday we have around 1/2 an hour with our Room 16 buddy class. They are a lovely group of Year 4-5 children. Last Friday they came to our room and our Room 3 children read their reading book to their buddies. After this, their older buddies read our children's library books to them. We are looking forward to spending more time with our buddies!

Diversity!

This week in Room 3 we have been learning about diversity as it is our school 'inquiry' or 'topic' for the term. We started off by looking at a globe and everyone guessed which planet we lived on. Once we figured out that we live on Earth, we talked about the different countries. Some of us knew that we lived in New Zealand so we tried to find New Zealand on the globe. We found that quite difficult as our country is quite small! We then talked about why some people have different skin to ours (but that we are all the same inside). We discussed other countries that ourselves or our parents come from and then we found them on the map too! We are a very multi-cultural class and we are proud of this! Take a look at where we come from!

Some fun shots from Room 3's second week!

We have all had an amazing second week at school. We have spent almost 2 weeks now learning the school and class routines, learning class rules, and learning how to work cooperatively together before we start a more regular classroom programme next week. It has been an exciting time for the children getting to know one another and to make new friends. Here are some shots of some great team work and some lovely art work we have started. Keep up the great work Room 3.

Passing the hoop without letting go of hands. Great team work!

Enjoying our new train set together.

Dressing up!

Beautiful self portraits the children have been working on. We have almost finished them all!

Baking Biscuits for Letter 'B' day!

Today in Room 3 we became bakers! Our letter of the day was 'b'. We learnt how to identify the letter, how to write the letter, what sound it makes, and some words beginning with 'b'. We also learnt what a recipe is, and that it has important steps that we need to follow in the correct order. The children loved baking biscuits and especially loved eating them!

Everybody had a turn mixing the biscuit dough, rolling their biscuit, and then pushing 5 mnm's
into their biscuit.

Kainoa proud of the team's results!
Well done Room 3!

Our First Day in Room 3!

Kia ora koutou,

We have had a fantastic first day in Room 3 today. We started off with a popular story named "The Hungry Caterpillar", and then we went for a walk around the school so that we could learn where everything is. After this, we had 'Brain Break' where we participate in fitness, healthy food and water, and a story. We then had a whole school assembly where we were introduced to the staff in the school and sung some songs.
Then it was time for morning tea. After morning tea, we had reading and math. These pictures were taken during this time. We were learning about the different rotations we will take part in during reading and Math. It was then time for lunch.
After lunch, we read some stories and then participated in some dancing which everyone loved. The website we use is www.gonoodle.com
After dancing, we took a class photo, tidied up, and then shared our news from our holiday.
It was a nice and relaxing day to ease the children into their transition to school. Everyone enjoyed themselves and seemed quite tired by the end of the day which is very normal! Bring on tomorrow =)
